Crisis in the fields: Key demands of farmers and ranchers
The outlook for farmers and ranchers in our country is desolating. A reality marked by the tireless dedication of these workers, who invest all their effort and time, working 365 days a year, only to find themselves in the end with a precarious and discouraging economic situation.
At the heart of this crisis lies an unequal market, where products from third countries flood our lands with lower prices, playing by completely different rules. It's an unfair scenario where our farmers and ranchers spend more than they earn from their productions, immersed in an unfair market that doesn't value their hard work.
But the situation doesn't stop there. The current circumstances of extreme drought and international conflicts, such as the War in Ukraine, only further aggravates this crisis. With fewer resources available and greater obstacles to exportation, our farmers and ranchers face ever greater challenges to keep their businesses afloat.
Faced with this bleak panorama, it is imperative that authorities and society as a whole pay attention to the demands of the agricultural and ranching sector. These demands, far from being capricious, are the voice of a collective fighting for their survival and for a fair and equitable treatment in a globalized and unequal market.
The demands are clear and resounding:
Maintenance of agricultural diesel. A crucial measure to relieve the economic burden on producers and ensure their economic viability.
Rejection of the digital logbook. An imposition that would only add more expenses to an already overstressed sector.
Flexibilization of regulations on eco-schemes. So that they are feasible to comply with without compromising the economic viability of the operations.
Relaxation of environmental laws. Allowing farmers and ranchers to live in rural areas without excessive restrictions that hinder their work.
Regulation of imports. To avoid unfair competition from products that do not meet European standards.
Equity in the food chain. Ensuring a fair price for products from the field to the shopping basket.
Promotion of controlled burning of crop residues. A necessary practice for land management and fire prevention.
Reduction of bureaucracy. Simplifying administrative procedures that burden producers.
Greater institutional support. Putting an end to the disregard of the sector by governments and promoting policies that truly benefit farmers and ranchers.
Professionalization of the field. Through a CAP focused on the development and modernization of the sector.
National-European project to bring the countryside closer to the city. Promoting greater awareness and support from society towards farmers and ranchers.
Objective of economic autonomy. Working and living without relying exclusively on CAP subsidies.
At Agroganadera Euroextremeña, we believe it is time to address these problems comprehensively and decisively. It's not just about demanding more money, but about fighting for a profound change in policies and in society's perception of the agricultural and ranching sector. Only then can we build a fairer and more prosperous future for all those who work the land and feed the world.
